Rather than checking your favorite news outlets and blogs for the latest updates, why not have the updates come to you? Whether it’s industry trends, local news, or your favorite advice article, you can stay up to date with every post by setting up an RSS bot in Typetalk.

Using Zapier, you can elect to receive messages in a designated Typetalk topic to inform you about posts important to you. Follow along with our example to learn now.

How to create a weather bot for Typetalk

1. Create your Typetalk bot

First, you need to visit your Topic Setting page of the topic you would like the bot to post to. Select the “Bots” tab, and then “Add new.”

Under API, check the “topic.post” box.

Then copy the URL listed under “Get or post messages URL” for later.

2. Set up Zapier

Next, you’ll need to set up a new Zap in Zapier. (If you don’t have an account, please create one. It’s free!)

Once you’re logged in, click the “MAKE A ZAP!” button.

For the trigger, select “RSS” within the “BUILT-IN APPS” section.

Then, select “New Item in Feed” and click “Save + Continue”.

Write out the feed URL of the website or blog that you want to receive notifications about, and then click “Continue”.

(We are using the Nulab blog for our example below.)

Click “Fetch & Continue”.

If the test succeeds, you will see the following.

Click “Continue”.

Next, we need to select “Webhooks by Zapier” for the action.

Select “POST”, then click “Save + Continue”.

Fill in the following information before selecting “Continue”.

  • URL
    • Paste the “Get or post messages URL” that you copied after initially creating your Typetalk bot
  • Payload Type
    • form
  • Data
    • message
    • [Content that you want to post]

Click “Send Test To Webhooks by Zapier”.

If the test succeeds, you will see the following page.

Finally, click “Finish”.

And you’re done! Next time the RSS feed you selected gets an update, your Typetalk bot will post a message to your designated topic informing you of the new article.
